Mike's Beer Can Chicken Recipe

Make Mike's Beer Can Chicken at home! All you need is some seasoning from the pantry, a can of beer and a whole chicken. This week's Colony Care Package includes a whole chicken and is available for free local delivery (up to 5 miles from Colony) or curbside pickup. All meat is antibiotic and hormone free, sustainably farmed, free range, humanely raised, butchered and delivered daily.

Beer Can Chicken Dry Rub Ingredients:

  • ¼ Cup Kosher Salt

  • 2 Tbsp Granulated Garlic

  • 2 Tbsp Black Pepper

  • 2 Tbsp Cayenne Pepper

  • 1 Tbsp Powdered Onion

  • 1 Tbsp Smoked Paprika

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Pull whole chicken out of fridge at least 1/2 hours before cooking.

  2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  3. Rinse whole chicken inside and out.

  4. Pat dry.

  5. Sprinkle and rub generous portion of rub on chicken.

  6. Open 12oz can of lager or pilsner - take a couple sips.

  7. Place beer can on 1/2 or full baking sheet.

  8. Place chicken on beer can tail side down, adjust until chicken is firmly placed on can and stands upright.

  9. Place in oven, breast towards back of oven, bake 30 minutes, turn chicken around and bake another 15 minutes or until internal temperature is 165 degrees.

  10. Grab yourself a cold beer.

  11. Once chicken is removed from oven let rest 10 minutes (note beer can will be hot).

  12. Enjoy!
